18 February 2004The political werewolves are howlingOn Nine's Today show this morning, Lindsay Tanner, Labor Party and PC high priest, suggested unabashed that Telstra's attempt to purchase the Fairfax group (harbouring the tottering old ladies of media left/liberalism - The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald) was really a plot by John Howard to gain control of the media! There are no limits to the howling frenzy that has gripped the PC class since Latham played the envy card and (according to his class) bloodied the Prime Minister. What should be seen as an act of prudence in countering a sycophantic grovelling move to flatter and bribe the electorate will be raked and crowed over and over and over by all manner of media mouths. The humble media lackey will not dare depart from the party line. As I write up this comment, in the background I can hear the ABC's political chief in Canberra, Katherine Graham, harassing the Prime Minister about his 'back flip' over politicians' superannuation. The sanctimony and pleasure of the unbiased ABC is scarcely containable. Wouldn't it be good if the public had full access to the monies, bribes and perks media figures enjoy? We get an indication every now and then. read my comment on Richard Carleton |
