'My
conviction is the greatest injustice in the history of this country!'
Who said that? If these had been the words of Dr Peter Hollingworth then
he would have had good reason to utter them. Nothing like the Hollingworth
kangaroo court got up by power-drunk media demagogues has ever happened in
Australia's history before.
However I have to inform the reader that these words came from the lazy
lips of an Australian convicted formally in a properly constituted court of
law in Australia. That convicted person is Rene Rivkin. Unrepentant,
he appeared on Sky News on David Koch's Business Report this morning to
condemn those nasties who engineered his conviction.
Fortunately for Australians, the all-powerful anti-democratic media bosses
have not yet completely perverted the processes of justice in this country.
The judge was refreshingly candid in describing the deed and Rivkin's
attitude in clear simple terms. Rivkin's insider trading of QANTAS shares
meant that ordinary shareholders were unfairly disadvantaged. It was as
plain as the nose on your face.
It really is a sick joke that Rivkin can claim on national television
that he had suffered the 'greatest injustice in the history of this country
[Australia]' and have people like Graham Richardson standing next to him
patting his hand and saying, 'there, there'.
I have frequently painted the arena of the media as an asylum of manic
inmates dangling like puppets on the end of strings held by the media
bosses. Rivkin, just one of those manic
media performers, has got his just desserts. He should be happy he is not of
the moral fibre of Dr Peter Hollingworth. Then he would draw attention. Then he would know something about
harsh injustice. He should count himself lucky that he was dealt with by a
properly constituted court of law. |
