11 August 20093AW's recidivist Neil Mitchell abandons himself to his blind prejudiceIt's an irony that in recent weeks an increasing number of visits to a comment I made in 2004 on Neil Mitchell's anti-religious fetish prompted me to make a qualification. As frantic as his obsession with religion and the Catholic Church has been, I thought that he had got over the monstrous pub mentality of that time. Getting the boot from Channel 7's Sunrise for his crass outbursts - as seemed the case - should have been a sobering experience. Even if he didn't get it, his Sunrise colleagues on Channel 7 obviously did. The opinion of those able to determine one's financial position can be wonderfully sobering no matter what one's opinion is. Alas, it was not - at least not sobering enough. Five years has seen the same intoxication grow again. This morning he was off on another rant, this time about Archbishop Hart's unacceptable but understandable response to a women who had been harassing him endlessly. As on other occasions, Mitchell could see only one aspect of this incident. Blind bigotry in operation. I will make a comment on this morning's rave in due course (I am busy with other matters at the moment) but I recommend the reader in the meantime have a glance through past comments I have made on Mitchell, especially that of May 2004. Postscript: Mitchell ended this morning's program by informing his listeners that his program was Number 1 in Melbourne. No doubt, he thinks that licenses him to give full rein to his anti-religious prejudice. I hope in the long run that Australia's sense of fairness will prevail, at 3AW and with his listeners.
