11 July 2008What to do about the anti-Catholic bigotry of someone Neil Mitchell? What about 3AW's sponsors? For many years faithful Catholics and other people of the Christian faith have had to cop sweet the rampant and unrestrained anti-religious bigotry of people like Neil Mitchell and Philip Adams. Adams in particular has had an amazing run courtesy of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, pointing up the sheer hypocrisy of one of the great bulwarks of our liberal society. We know that in practice Australia's laws and penalties for discrimination are invoked only to shut up and punish Catholics and their type. But when it comes to dealing with those deemed ideologically unacceptable (not only Catholics) the laws are suspended. For example what you can say freely about Catholics and the Catholic Church you could never say about homosexuals. There is legislation that enables a homo-fascist like Gary Burns to run and pour out his heart in the tender sympathetic arms of a anti-discrimination commissioner. It is recently with the internet that we have been offered an outlet that the dominant political class has not been able (at least as yet) to censor without showing themselves to be the egregious hypocrites that they really are. So someone like me can pay a modest fee to raise a small voice against the cloud-hugging wall of discrimination Catholics and others face. I can assure the people who visit my site and agree with my arguments that even a small voice like mine can be effective. More can be done, though. People like Mitchell and Adams, and the organisations that pay them, cannot stand being subjected to the treatment they deal out to others. That's one reason a small voice can be effective. But we can add to the effectiveness by targeting, in Mitchell's case, Radio 3AW's sponsors. If a media figure in the commercial area insists on voicing his prejudice, then we should boycott the products of the sponsors paying huge fees for the advertising of their products, and make sure we tell the companies that we are boycotting them. This morning on Neil Mitchell's program there have been advertisements for the following companies: HARVY NORMAN COMPUTER SELL-OUT - the heaviest advertiser JASON FAMILY BEDDING WICKED THE MUSICAL KELLOGG'S NUTRI GRAIN AVIS RENT-A-CAR CAMBERWELL ELECTRONICS PRIME LIFE COMMUNITIES FOR PEOPLE OVER 55 AUSTRALIA IN STYLE MAGAZINE MAZDA CARS APIA INSURANCE SOUTH MELBOURNE MARKETS RACV BUSINESS INSURANCE MITSUBISHI CARS OZ KNITS
