30 August 2008Pro-life Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, selected as John McCain's Vice-President running mateGetting over the initial surprise of McCain's unexpected choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate in the coming elections for the next US President, commentators are now turning to praise. Sarah Palin appears a formidable conservative politician who will complement McCain extremely well. Indeed, Sarah Palin may make the crucial difference in the electorate. I will leave the reader to find the many news sites that are commenting on this relatively little known US politician. The one feature of this choice that strikes me looking from the other side of the world is that Governor Sarah Palin is conservative and prolife (the mother of five children, the last of whom is a Down Syndrome child). It strikes me, as I have said before, because we don't have someone like Sarah Palin in the Australian political arena. Nor do we have anyone like hugely successful conservative commentator Laura Ingraham in Australian television or radio, or a woman like the highly intelligent and cultivated (conservative) Condoleeza Rice in executive government? That raises serious questions. Why does the social and political scene in the US allow room for intelligent articulate conservative women like Sarah Palin, Condoleeza Rice, and Laura Ingraham and Australia doesn't? These women are ready to defend the most defenceless in our society, the unborn child. Why do we have to put up with women like Lynn Allison and Natasha Stott Despoya of The Australian Democrats hogging the political limelight and (what's worse) having the power to write legislation skewed to their pernicious PC fantasies. Why do they get away with shutting up dissenting voices who dare to object to the callous killing of the unborn child? There has hardly been a more absurdly PC politician in Australia's history than Stott Despoja or a more absurd political party than The Australian Democrats (with its pure newspeak title). Future generations will have the task to go back over the legislation that princess of undergraduate politically correct rhetoric has had a hand in. The answers to these question raise serious questions about the political hegemony of Australia's PC-class and their suffocating political agitation. The following is Newsmax.com's report on Palin's appointment: Pro-Lifers Applaud Palin PickFriday, August 29, 2008 11:55 AMBy: Jim Meyers The influential pro-life Susan B. Anthony List is applauding John McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. “Sarah Palin is the whole package. There couldn’t be a better vice presidential pick,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Women voters are electrified, and Sarah is someone who is truly in sync with the way real American women think. She is a reform-minded woman who will give all Americans, born and unborn, the authentic leadership they deserve.” “The majority of American women support commonsense restrictions on abortion. Adding Palin to the GOP ticket will resonate with independent women voters nationwide. By choosing the boldly pro-life Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has taken his stand as the one true, authentic pro-life ticket.” The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 147,000 Americans residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. In April of this year, Sarah Palin gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, who was born premature with Down Syndrome. Recent statistics cited by the Susan B. Anthony list show that in the U.S., approximately 90 percent of Down Syndrome diagnoses end with the mother choosing abortion. Palin told the Anchorage Daily News about her family’s reaction to the diagnosis: “We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed.” In 2006, Sarah Palin was endorsed by the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund in her race for Alaska governor. In addition to extensive fundraising for pro-life candidates, the Susan B. Anthony List announced that it will implement “When Women Vote, Pro-Life Candidates Win!”— a sophisticated voter mobilization program that will target over one million pro-life women voters across seven battleground states. The organization plans to invest over $6 million in its 2008 election efforts. More reports: comments: gerardwilson01@optusnet.com.au
