Nguyen Tuong Van carried '26,000 potentially fatal hits' in 396 gms of heroin - more malevolent nonsense from Singapore's killer cabinet

Nguyen Tuong Van carried an infinitesimal amount of heroin compared to the tons that hit Australia's streets each year. From the mountain of heroin that is available a relatively small number of people die from overdose. According to a report by the Australian Federal Police that number hit a high in 1999 with 1116 deaths with a low of 364 in 2002. That alone makes a mockery of the Singapore government's claim. But there's more to it than quantity related to hits.

People do not normally die from one hit of heroin, as the figures show. They die of an overdose. That means more than one hit by a person who is usually combining heroin with other drugs and other destructive behaviour. Heroin addiction is a social problem for those taking it and those caught up as minor players. The real criminals are those in Burma, for example, whose government seems to have a special relation with Singapore's killer government.

The last thing Singapore's government of accountants wants is to be bothered with the social problem of drug-taking, one of the great problems of our modern materialist society. Far easier to set an arbitrary margin and then without more ado liquidate.

From the Fact Sheet of the Australian Federal Police:
...The results of several independent studies confirm that Australian Federal Police efforts to intercept illicit drugs has resulted in a reduction in availability on the streets and this in turn has had significant health, social and economic benefits both to the community and to drug users. As a result of fewer drugs on the street, deaths from heroin overdoses dropped from a record 1116 in 1999 to 364 in 2002 and are continuing to fall...
