Drunken Russian soldiers running amok in Gori, stealing, shooting and terrorising civilians
Last night's evening NOS news bulletin in Holland showed vision of distraught citizens fleeing from the Russian occupied Georgian city of Gori. One terrified women in tears said that drunken Russians soldiers were running out of control shooting and stealing anything that wasn't nailed down.
The Russian Foreign Affairs Minister said America had to choose between Russia and supporting the democratically elected government of Georgia. Condoleeza Rice said the US would defend Georgia and told the Russians to back off. Get lost, was the Russian's answer.
There are many people in the West who will not be surprised at Russia's invasion of a sovereign country. It was just a matter of time and the particular country. Russia has different clothes and different rhetoric these days, they will say, but it's still the same animal.
The Left, of course, will scoff at such claims, dismissing them as paranoia typical of the ignorant Right.
