An example of the madness that passes for political discourse in Holland

"Nederland moet worden bevrijd van angst voor islam"

No less a person than Ruud Lubbers, former prime minister of The Netherland and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said that The Netherlands was urgently in need of a "third liberation". He said this in a speech during the symposium "On the way to a new Identity!" which dealt with integration and identity (June 2009).

Lubbers used the word "bevrijding" which translates as "liberation", but to the Dutch "bevrijding" conjures up a whole nightmarish scenario that "liberation" is entirely free of for most English-speaking people.

Every Dutch person would know that Lubbers is using the image of the Nazi and Holocaust horror against people like Geert Wilders, leader of Partij Voor Vrijheid (Party for Freedom). The smear tactic, once again. No criticism of Wilders' platform which can be found on the PVV website, let us just stamp on any dissent.

Lubbers also resorts to another common tactic of the dominant political class. The headline above translates as "The Netherlands has to be freed from fear of Islam". You see, anybody who has concern about Islam is merely experiencing an emotion, not a rational thought.

A great cheering crowd swarmed around the plane that had just brought the Lockerbie bomber back to Libya. Here was the Islamic hero triumphing over the infidel. Many people in Great Britain experienced an acute emotion at that sight.
