Musical traditions of Christmas going back centuries - part of the West's cultural heritage

Fr Stenhouse in the latest edition of Annals Australasia offers the seven great 'O' Antiphons 'in the hope that their sentiments and music will bring Christmas truly into our hearts this 2002nd anniversary of Christ's birth. Wulfstan (Anglo-Saxon Archbishop, d. 1023 AD) sang them, as did Thomas a Beckett and St Thomas More. They are part of our heritage as Catholics.'

Indeed, I would say they are an important part of the cultural heritage of Christian/Western Civilisation. They are the treasure of all of us who cling to our Western culture. Fr Stenhouse's commentary and the Antiphons and their music are in the following four pages. These pdf pages can be printed out.
