23 December 2009Melbourne's feminist newspaper gifts its constituency a steaming dish of anti-Christian bigotry for their Christmas celebrationsI suppose one could say that Catherine Deveny, 'comedy writer, stand-up comedian and columnist at The Age', is the female equivalent of Phillip Adams. The comparison is very flattering for Catherine because in his field Adams has no equal. He is Australia's foremost professional bigot and hypocrite. It's been that way for thirty years. Or is that forty? He must have some sort of record for churning out anti-Christian and leftist bigotry. He's certainly seen off a host of comrades. That's a record to aspire to! Deveny is not at that level by a long shot, but she should be pleased she's going well in that direction. Her hate-filled targeted finely tuned mockery of her political opponents - religion is political for her - is very impressive. An indication of how well she is doing is reflected today in her Christmas piece for The Age. This is ignorant stuff, as Adams' stuff is ignorant, all from the bulging book of anti-Christian mythology written at remedial English level. But that's of no account. It's the market reach and penetration that is important. Mockingly distort, misrepresent and tell as many lies as you like as long as you get similarly hate-filled minds listening and amused - and reinforced. Mockery and ridicule are devastating weapons, as Adams himself has taught. I do not comment on the piece to dissuade Christians from reading it. Quite the contrary. I urge all orthodox Christians to read it attentively. Most particularly they should read the comments that follow. In those comments they should note the ignorance of European history, the contempt for their fellow citizens and the eagerness to denigrate and cast Christians as less worthy of citizenship. They should connect the Age's unrelenting anti-Christian prejudice (particularly its anti-Catholic bigotry) and the hate-filled constituency that rises in applause whenever a piece by Deveny or some other hack appears in its pages - they should connect this with the legislative campaign to collapse the Christian churches. They should connect it with the Brumby government. Penal laws and disqualification is where it is leading. How does that saying go? Those who are ignorant of history are condemned to repeat it - or something like that. Comment: gerard@gerardcharleswilson.com |
