5 July 2007The sudden appearance of Howard haters on 3AW Neil Mitchell's talk-backAlthough I often tune into Neil Mitchell's much improved talk-back program on 3AW (more often than to John Faine on ABC 774), I do not listen all morning or each day. Nevertheless, I think I can form a reliable opinion of the sort of people who ring to comment on the daily issues. They are generally non-leftist and non-PC, really the ordinary Aussie dealing in a down-to-earth manner with daily life. Whenever the subject of John Howard arises you have more people who support him than criticise him. What you don't often hear is the bitter unreformable Howard hater. This is the person whose hatred of John Howard is palpable. It's the person who calls John Howard a liar, a charlatan, someone who tricks and deceives the Australian public, whose actions are always cynically aimed at achieving his selfish class goals at the expense of 'the people', who aims at setting up a police state or dictatorship, and so on and so on. There is for this person no possibility that John Howard could be genuinely motivated by sound principle to make policies in the interests of Aboriginal people, for example. Quite simply, John Howard is an evil man. Nobody has been more demonised in Australian history or folklore than John Howard. It's the sort of person you will hear frequently on John Faine's ABC 774 program, something that John Faine has implicitly recognised. In the last week or two I have noticed this person ringing Neil Mitchell far more frequently. Why? John Faine has also acknowledged that political activists (mostly of the Left) get on the phone to him when their particular political agenda is involved. Whenever a trade union issue arises you will immediately get people defending the unions in an experienced political manner who never identify themselves as union officials. Whenever the issue of homosexual 'rights' arises you will immediately have homosexual activists on the phone defending their agenda. Homosexual activists, the smartest of political activists, cleverly target the Mitchell program. I wouldn't mind betting that the Howard-hating coalition has targeted Neil Mitchell's program as an important part of the campaign launched last year to wrestle government from John Howard and his evil Conservatives. http://www.mytalk.com.au/Stations/Talk/3AW/Pages/NeilMitchellprogram.aspx
